Why I’m standing
Ashley Campbell
Our future is in our hands
The people of Christchurch North East/Ōrei know just what it’s like to have traumatic change forced upon us by nature. We know the heartache it causes, and we don’t want to go through that again.
Now our land and waters are at the frontline of our city’s adaptation to climate change. We can’t ignore it, but we can prevent more harm to people and the environment.
If we act now, we can choose how we adapt – if we leave it much longer, we won’t be able to.
By working with and caring for our environment, we also care for our people.
We need to work with nature to adapt to the challenges of climate change.
My priorities
Restoring natural environments to
help protect our homes from rising waterways
provide habitat for native wildlife
create carbon sinks to absorb and store greenhouse gasses.
Providing real transport choices by ensuring public transport is:
frequent
reliable
affordable
convenient
and safe for ALL.
Cleaning up our rivers so they become
ecologically sustainable
swimmable and safe.
